Into Indonesia
After Darwin, we said goodbye to Australia and headed for Indonesia, a country I have never been to. Our first port was Komodo Island, famous for the giant lizard known as the Komodo Dragon. Unfortunately, I was unable to to book an excursion before they sold out and for safety reasons we were unable to leave th ship without a scheduled tour.
A friend I made on the boat did go, but it didn't sound like they did much or saw anything too extraordinary. He showed me his pictures of the Komodo dragons, which looked very similar to ones I've taken at the zoo. Yes, it would have been cool to see them in their native land, wild and free, but that's okay. There are about 1200 of them on the island with only 600 local residents. Pretty crazy.
From Komodo Island we went to Lombok. There wasn't a whole lot to do around the cruise terminal, and since I am spending a whole week in the neighboring island, Bali, I decided not to get off here either. The views from the ship were amazing though. So many islands of different sizes, all green and lush. Some of them are virtually or completely untouched by humans.
From Lombok, we head to Bali where we will disembark and I will get to spend a week on land and beaches!!
