Healthy Mind, Body, & Soul
Yesterday we had some sun and nice weather for most of the day, so we made it a beach day. We took a Grab (Asia's version of Uber) to Canguu beach and paid for two sun beds and an umbrella. There were a lot of people out but it didn't feel overly crowded. I started a new book and Mike listened to some podcasts while we enjoyed the scenery.
The water was pretty rough and the waves broke very close to shore, so it was not ideal for swimming. The water was also not as clear or pretty as I've seen at some other beaches, I think because of the rough surf. It was pretty comical watching the inexperienced surfers try to catch waves, and even more funny watching them try to get out. With the big breaks and strong undertow, many struggled to get out of the water and the locals had to help them. I know the feeling!
We've had some great meals so far. Eggs Benedict and avocado toast in the morning, tacos for lunch, pizza for dinner. We have a reservation tomorrow night for an upscale local restaurant and we will probably both do the tasting menu to try a bunch of different dishes.
Today is cloudy with on and off rain so we decided to find a gym and get a good workout, steam, and sauna in. Afterwards, we'll hang by the pool and read some more. Although it has been raining a lot, I have not minded it all.
The one negative thing I have to say about Bali is the road infrastructure and traffic. The roads are very narrow, there is not a single stop sign or light so intersections are brutal, and the motorbikes are so aggressive they even drive on the sidewalks (when there is one). For those reasons, it is very difficult and sometimes impossible to walk which for me is a big downside. However, a ride via Grab is super cheap for getting around, I just happen to like walking.
Them streets look hella narrow for sure. Food looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteHey cliff and mike!! Gym looks great. The street looks crazy!! Definitely not for walking. Food looks fresh and presented so pretty!! It sounds like you guys are having a great time!! Tell Mike hi!!
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean about the crashing shoreline. I know where I’d be – my face in the sand. Looks like despite the rain, you saw a lot of of this beautiful place. The food is as pretty as the scenery. I’m curious if you went to the nice restaurant and tried the sample menu.
