Cruising Around Queensland
After leaving Airlie Beach a few days ago, we backtracked a bit South and headed towards Cooktown. Cooktown is named after the British explorer James Cook and it seems to have quite a bit of history. However, I decided not to get off the ship at this Port.
The main reason being because we were anchored quite a ways from shore and the only tenders they were using were the ship's lifeboats. You can see them in the second picture from the top. They are very small and quite cramped. It was 90+ degrees, the water was a little rough, and there was no AC or even flowing air in them as they couldn't open doors/windows due to the rougher sea. It sounded like a miserable 35 minute ride just to walk around for a bit so I decided to stay on the ship.
Staying on the ship while at Port can be quite nice. Since at least half of the guests get off, it is much more open and quiet around. I went swimming for the first time believe it or not, had the gym to myself, and could just relax. We had a couple more days at sea after we left Cooktown and headed north.
From Cooktown we are wrapping around the northeast corner of Australia which is the territory of Queensland. It's been a nice few days, but I am itching to get off this boat for a bit. We will arrive in Darwin on Thursday where we will be docked and I will definitely get off!
Beautiful country. Does the ship have other entertainments, casino?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous cliff. Thank you for posting
ReplyDeleteI would have stayed on the ship too!!, wise choice! Love you more
Darwin looked/sounded great, but I really liked the pictures you took from the boat . Especially the sunrise / sunset. Your trip is probably coming near its end and we look forward to seeing you again, hopefully soon! 💜
