Cairns, Australia

Today we arrived in Cairns in the northeast corner of Australia. This is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. We will be docked here overnight, leaving tomorrow late afternoon. Cairns is a cute town from what I can gather, and I already noticed a lot more aboriginals than when I was in Sydney. Since we had to skip Brisbane, this is our first port.

I wasn't going to at first, because of the price, but I decided today to sign up for a trip to the outer Great Barrier Reef where I will get to snorkel and ride a submersible! When's the next chance I'll have to experience that?!?? Besides, with all the damage we do to our planet, who knows what condition the reef will be like in the future. I'm super excited!!

We will be docked here overnight and can come and go as we please. However, my excursion tomorrow starts at 7 am so no big plans for me tonight. I'm currently sitting in McDonald's using their free wifi to catch up on emails, texts, and this blog. Interesting fact: Aussies call McDonald's Maccas.

Below are some pics of the port, the Esplanade Lagoon where locals hang out and cool off, and the Reef Eye. It's 85 degrees today and after being so careful and so good for the first few days, I think I got sunburnt today, ugh... Anyway, can't wait to experience the Great Barrier Reef tomorrow, truly a bucket list and once in a lifetime experience!!!

  1. Sounds like a blast. You definitely have to do those excursions. And I'm sure you're eating good. Don't forget to hit the gym after. Lol. And get a massage while you're at it.
