Valentine's Day Trip

The above photos are from my flight home from Sydney about 10 days ago. I thought those reading might be interested in seeing what Delta One on our flagship, Airbus 350 is like. Delta One on our 330s and 350s have suites with lie-flat beds, large screens, and doors that close for privacy. I've been lucky enough to score one on most of my international flights.

After watching the Superbowl with family and spending some time at home, it was time to plan my next adventure. My first choice was Bogota, Colombia as I've heard really good things and always wanted to visit. When you fly standby, however, you always have to have a backup plan. For this trip, it was Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and that is where I am!

Punta Cana is a very beautiful, romantic place that people love to come to for weddings and anniversaries. So it's only fitting that I flew in on Valentine's Day. I may be single and traveling solo, but I think I've proven I won't let that stop me from seeing the world one country at a time.

Today, my first full day here, has been mostly cloudy with off and on rain. I brought an umbrella but felt silly using it. For one, no locals use umbrellas. Also, the tropical rain is warm and feels quite refreshing. It never lasts very long either.

I'm staying at a small hotel in a typical Dominican neighborhood. I decided to walk through one of the nearby resorts and found an amazing nature walk through some mangroves (photos below). I also walked along the beach for a while. It seems as though there is one long beach that continues all the way around the island. The water is a beautiful turquoise and the white sand is soft and pillowy. I will put one teaser pic of the beach below, but I want to wait for a sunnier day to do the beach pics justice. You'll just have to check back for my next post!

  1. Gorgeous gorgeous pictures, Cliff. And you know what? You are never alone because you have yourself and you are great company. That path is so beautiful and inviting. I’m always amazed at how you find the best spots no matter how much or little time you have. Thanks for sharing!
