Temples, Shrines & Tombs .... Oh my!
The jet lag has most certainly kicked in! Yesterday I walked so much that I needed a nap before dinner. Unfortunately, I then slept until midnight. But I needed it! On layovers I am very good about limiting my naps and maximizing my time to explore, but since I have much more time during this trip I have to let my body rest when it needs it, especially when putting in 25k+ steps a day.
So I was up from midnight until almost 6 am before I could sleep a little more and having a little trouble getting going today. But I grabbed my breakfast from 7-11, headed out for the park, and saw some more temples, shrines, tombs, and other cool things. I had every intention of labeling every thing I took a picture of and providing some context for them here, but there is just too much to take in. When a civilization has been around for as long as Japan has, the history runs way deeper than I can try to spell out on this simple blog. However, I have learned a lot and highly recommend a dive into Japanese history and culture to anyone who is remotely interested. It is fascinating!
I am going to try and nap a little now, so I can head to Tokyo Tower just before sunset. I only have about 24 hours left in Tokyo before I take the train to Kyoto. I am VERY excited for Kyoto. Talk about history, culture, and tradition. Tokyo has been great, but at my core I am not a big city boy. I prefer countryside or mountains over skyscrapers any day. That being said, I am going to get as much as I can out of Tokyo, but feel like I've already seen so much, including the Imperial Palace, Castle & surrounding Gardens.
I am truly grateful for and humbled by this experience already.
