Take-Off

Today, after a slight delay due to feeling under the weather and flight loads being on the full side, I finally started my long awaited journey! I had not been to Hawaii in over a month, so I decided to spend a few days in Honolulu before heading to Tokyo. I took a Southwest flight out of Oakland, CA and touched down around 3 pm local time. I reserved the cheapest car I could find online, and got upgraded to a Mustang convertible!


For the next 3 days, I'll be cruising around Waikiki - North Shore - Diamond head, etc. and just enjoying island life. I have a feeling Tokyo will be go, go, go with so much to see and take in. Therefore, I'm glad to have this beach time and R&R, both in Hawaii now and in southern Thailand after I visit Japan. There's nothing quite like beach life, and I'm still working on living here one day. Aloha!!

Um Parque com Ginasio

  For my first full day in Sao Paulo, I mostly walked around and explored the area more without any real agenda. I went by the Pinocoteca (Brazilian art museum) and the surrounding Parque Jardim de Luz. I gotta say, the highlight of my day was finding an outdoor gym with equipment made out of stones and cement. I was pretty shocked when I saw it, but since I was in shorts and a tank top and hadn't worked out for a couple days, I got a nice little workout in! I will definitely be back tomorrow as well.   It smells SOOOOO good when walking around. I have yet to indulge in any real local foods, but I will tomorrow. I have some good recommendations from a couple of friends who have been here. Everything is very cheap here and the people are friendly.    There are quite a bit of homeless and I've been warned multiple times to be vigilant, not have my phone out constantly, etc. I knew coming here that it was a place to exercise much more caution than most places I've visit...

The Great Barrier Reef

     Yesterday, I boarded a tender (smaller transfer boat) from our ship to go on an adventure of a lifetime - to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef! There are a handful of natural wonders in the world that I HAVE to experience during my lifetime, and this was one of them. It did not disappoint!    The ride was about 90 minutes to Moore Reef. The company we used, Sunlover Reef Cruises, is the sole operator at this particular reef and it is roughly the size of two football fields. There is a two-deck pontoon there which serves as our home base for the day. We arrived about 9:30 in the morning and had 4 hours to snorkel and enjoy the reef.
