Bustling Bangkok

 





   Today I changed hotels and while it isn't as nice as the last one, it's right in the middle of the action! I am now very close to all of the sites I want to see before heading south towards Phuket and Koh Samui. 

   While in Japan everyone pretty much kept to themselves and I could go a whole day walking around without anyone saying a word to me, Bangkok is quite different. Food vendors and merchants line the streets, and people are trying to sell you on it all. Even taxi and tuk tuk drivers can be pretty aggressive. I'm not sure how many times today that I said "no thank you, I like to walk."

  I was pretty sweaty though, as the humidity felt quite a bit higher today with thunderstorms in the area. The temples and shrines here are numerous and quite flamboyant. Some streets are impossible to walk down without getting bumped into/bumping into people. For someone who likes their space, it's a little difficult to get used to but I only have one more day here before venturing on 

   The food so far has been the best part. So good, and so cheap. Time for a relaxing evening before another adventurous day tomorrow!

Um Parque com Ginasio

  For my first full day in Sao Paulo, I mostly walked around and explored the area more without any real agenda. I went by the Pinocoteca (Brazilian art museum) and the surrounding Parque Jardim de Luz. I gotta say, the highlight of my day was finding an outdoor gym with equipment made out of stones and cement. I was pretty shocked when I saw it, but since I was in shorts and a tank top and hadn't worked out for a couple days, I got a nice little workout in! I will definitely be back tomorrow as well.   It smells SOOOOO good when walking around. I have yet to indulge in any real local foods, but I will tomorrow. I have some good recommendations from a couple of friends who have been here. Everything is very cheap here and the people are friendly.    There are quite a bit of homeless and I've been warned multiple times to be vigilant, not have my phone out constantly, etc. I knew coming here that it was a place to exercise much more caution than most places I've visit...

The Great Barrier Reef

     Yesterday, I boarded a tender (smaller transfer boat) from our ship to go on an adventure of a lifetime - to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef! There are a handful of natural wonders in the world that I HAVE to experience during my lifetime, and this was one of them. It did not disappoint!    The ride was about 90 minutes to Moore Reef. The company we used, Sunlover Reef Cruises, is the sole operator at this particular reef and it is roughly the size of two football fields. There is a two-deck pontoon there which serves as our home base for the day. We arrived about 9:30 in the morning and had 4 hours to snorkel and enjoy the reef. They also had a glass bottom boat and semi-submersible for those that couldn't get in the water.     I've been snorkeling many times in my life, particularly in Hawaii, but this experience was unlike anything I had ever done before.
